Employee Separation Benefits

Employee benefits end at midnight on the last day worked in a benefit eligible position. Employees and covered dependents may be eligible for COBRA the first day following the loss of healthcare coverage. Additional information about annual leave payout, retirement accounts, healthcare spending accounts, etc. is available on the Separation From Employment Summary.

Loss of coverage occurs when:

  • Upon termination of benefit eligible employment
  • Hours or terms of employment are reduced to a benefit-ineligible status
  • Divorce or legal separation (applies to a covered employee's spouse)
  • Death of employee
  • Covered child no longer qualifies as a "dependent child" under the plan

COBRA Continuation of Coverage

  • COBRA enrollment packets are mailed approximately 2 weeks following the loss of coverage
  • COBRA elections must be completed within 60 days of the loss of coverage
  • Cost of coverage is 100% of plan cost (in addition to 2% administrative fee)
  • Monthly cost will be included in COBRA enrollment packet
